WNC Boomers East Walking Group - 2025-08-21
We will meet at the picnic area/pole barn at Lake Tomahawk (next to the tennis courts) 8/21 at 10am to organize-look at dates and times and places to walk-and we can walk around the Lake afterwards for our first walk. Feel free to bring a friend!
UPDATE 8-22-25
I had one person show up for the organizational meeting for the WNC-Boomers east on Thur 8/21. Others notified me that they would not be able to attend. So here are the things discussed and decided on:
1- We will meet on Wed and Fri at 8:30am at Lake Tomahawk in Black Mtn at the covered picnic area next to the tennis courts to walk. It is .55 miles one lap around and a nice flat easy walk. The time will be later as the light changes and it gets cooler outside. We can plan other places to walk as members decide to.
2- We will plan to walk 2 miles - 4 laps-(really 2.2 miles) each time and those that want to go further can. I hope eventually most folks get up to 4 miles for weight bearing for those bones!
3- We could add a 3rd day although I can’t really do this until late fall, but some folks may want to do this on their own.
Marilyn and I walked 2 miles; it was very humid but nice to walk and chat!
Please reach out with any questions and we will start next Wed!
ADDED INFO:
Black Mtn Recreation Dept. does some great hikes and there are openings next Tuesday 8/26 for the Oak Hill Park hike in Morganton. You can ride in the van or take your own car and 14 people can go. This is an easy to moderate hike (about 3 miles) and the company is always enjoyable. It is rare to have room on these hikes as they usually fill up minutes after the registration is up. Go to the Black Mtn Recreation Dept web site and hit programs. Clint Bowman leads the hikes and he is absolutely delightful to hike with!
(Admin note: this event is extended to the end of year to show under events; to be adjusted as needed.)
